Subject: | National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of September 2021 as National Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Each year, this resolution offers an opportunity for individuals to learn about SCI, recognizes the daily challenges encountered by injured persons and acknowledges the achievements of those Americans living with SCI. Every 48 minutes, someone in the U.S. is paralyzed because of SCI. Today, approximately 294,000 Americans, 40,000 of which are veterans, suffer from spine-related injuries. Each year, over 17,000 people suffer SCI. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs, through its efforts to aid those living with SCI and support the advancement of SCI research, is a leading advocate for this awareness month. In recognition of all those affected by and working to address SCI, I hope you will join me in recognizing September 2021 as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. |
