Subject: | Legislation Restricting the Placement of Billboards |
In the near future I plan to introduce companion legislation to current HB 850. This legislation amends the Municipalities Planning Code to prohibit the placement of off-premises advertising signs within 1,000 feet of an existing school, public playground, public park, residential housing area, church or meetinghouse, or childcare facility without municipal approval. An off-premises advertising sign is defined as having a display 32 square feet or larger that is leased or rented for the purpose of conveying a commercial or noncommercial message. Prior to approving these signs a municipality would be obligated to conduct at least one public hearing and ensure that all property owners within 1,000 feet of the proposed sign are notified at least 30 days prior to the hearing. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation |
