Subject: | Rules Reform: Requiring Amendment Votes to be Placed on the Senate Publicly Facing Website |
In the near future, we will be introducing a resolution amending the Senate Operating Rules to ensure that Pennsylvanians have access to every amendment vote. This proposed resolution is among a package of Senate Rules Reform Resolutions, many of which are included in SR4, that are intended to empower members of both sides of the aisle to effectively advocate for their constituents. This package of Rules Reforms will ensure transparency in the legislative process, encourage public participation, and hold members accountable to the public. Specifically, this resolution would require the Secretary-Parliamentarian of the Senate to post roll call votes for each amendment, regardless of whether the amendment was offered in committee or on the Senate floor, on the Senate’s publicly facing website. At the start of this legislative session, in his opening remarks, the President Pro Tempore discussed his desire to restore public faith in government through transparency. By ensuring all amendment votes taken in this Chamber are posted on our Senate webpage, we can take a small step in doing just that. Please join us in cosponsoring this important change to the Senate Operating Rules. |
