Subject: | Senate Resolution Recognizing “THON Week” in PA (Feb. 19-21, 2021) |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution honoring the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, or THON. Held annually each February, this Penn State University-based 46-hour dance-a-thon, is the largest student-run philanthropic endeavor in the world, both in revenue and volunteer participation. With the support of students from across the Commonwealth and beyond, this year-long effort benefits the nonprofit Four Diamonds organization at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Whether to cover cancer treatment costs or to fund research for a cure, THON has raised $180 million to date for the benefit of those impacted by childhood cancer. In an effort to promote the safety of students, volunteers, supporters and families, this year, THON will be held virtually on the evening of Friday, February 19 and conclude on Sunday, February 21, 2021. With this resolution, we would be recognizing the week of February 15-21, 2021 as “THON Week” in Pennsylvania. Please join me in honoring the continuing, tremendous effort made by more than 16,500 student volunteers, as well as their families; as they continue to help raise funding, increase awareness and provide emotional support to children and families fighting childhood cancer. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
