Subject: Establishing an Insurer Credentialing Timeline
 
I plan to introduce legislation that will establish a timeline for insurers to issue a credentialing determination for health care practitioners, in an effort to expedite the credentialing process, which can, at times, take up to six months.

During these six months, health care providers, who are otherwise qualified and able to provide care, are unable to be reimbursed by the insurers. This excessive wait costs hospitals, community health centers and physician practices significant amounts of money and keeps these licensed and capable providers sidelined until their credentials are approved.
