Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 7, 2020 08:57 AM
From: Senator Doug Mastriano and Sen. Judy Ward
To: All Senate members
Subject: One Year Suspension of Tavern Gaming License Renewal Fee

We intend to re-introduce legislation that would suspend the Tavern Gaming License renewal fee for one year.

The legislation was introduced as Senate Bill 1343 during the 2019-2020 legislative session, to provide financial relief to the liquor licensee community.

Restaurant and tavern owners have been devastated by the Governor’s capacity restrictions and are barely hanging on to their livelihoods.

Some businesses are not only holders of liquor licenses but also a little-known license known as a Tavern Gaming License.

We each have constituents who hold a Tavern Gaming License and they are struggling financially, because they were either shut down by the administration, or operating at a limited capacity during the COVID pandemic.

Our legislation would suspend the $1,000 license renewal fee for a year.

We believe this legislation will help businesses who have been negatively impacted during the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously, the legislation was co-sponsored by Senators Argall, Arnold, Gordner and Hutchinson.

We invite you to join us as a co-sponsor.

Introduced as SB80
