MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 3, 2020 11:00 AM
From: Senator John P. Sabatina, Jr.
To: All Senate members
Subject: Notification Requirements - Lost or Stolen Drugs

Soon, I plan to introduce legislation that will help address the issue of prescription drug diversion and trafficking in the Commonwealth.

This legislation establishes immediate notification requirements for any nursing home, assisted living facility, pharmacy or hospital that has had a controlled substance stolen (or lost) from their facility. Notification must be made to local law enforcement and the Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control.

In conjunction with other legislative efforts to fight the opioid epidemic, this legislation will establish a set of standards for establishments that are responsible for the safe and secure distribution of controlled substances. Additionally, this will help our law enforcement agencies in their efforts to track/combat prescription drug diversion in our communities.

I hope you will join me in sponsoring this important legislation.

Introduced as SB487
