|Subject:||Expansion of Property Tax Exemption for 100% Disabled Veterans|
I plan to re-introduce legislation (SB 1265 from last session) to address current limitations to the 100% disabled veteran’s property tax exemption.
This bill will address the issue of many 100% disabled veterans who are ineligible for property tax exemption because of the way their income is calculated. These veterans—some of whom have the greatest need for property tax exemption—receive disability benefits designed to assist them in paying for everyday functioning, caregiving, medication management and renovations to their residence to accommodate their disability. Under current statute, these benefits are calculated as part of a disabled veteran’s income to determine eligibility for property tax exemption. This legislation will exclude federal veteran’s disability benefits from the calculation of “income.”
Please join me in honoring those who have sacrificed so much through their service of this great Nation and our Commonwealth.
