Subject: | Condemning Attacks on Civilians in the Artsakh Republic |
Soon I will introduce a resolution condemning the ongoing attacks by Azerbaijan against civilians in the Artsakh Republic. The Artsakh Republic, a proud democracy, has been an integral part of the Armenian homeland for thousands of years. It has a proud record of consistently holding parliamentary and presidential elections. In 1994 it signed a cease-fire agreement that ended major military hostilities between Artsakh and Azerbaijan. Now, Azerbaijan, with support from Syrian fighters and Turkey, is attacking civilians across the Artsakh Republic with heavy artillery, rockets, drones and ground forces. The Artsakh Republic remains committed to a negotiated, nonviolent resolution to hostilities. The Senate should condemn these attacks against civilians and recognize the Artsakh Republic's right to self-determination and independence. Please join me in supporting this important resolution. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. |
