Subject: | LBFC Study of the Esports Industry in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution that will direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee, in consultation with the Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee, to conduct a study of the rapidly emerging Esports industry in Pennsylvania. The report from this study will include recommendations to the General Assembly on what steps policy makers can take now to ensure the Commonwealth is ahead of the curve of this booming new sector. Whether it is those involved with the North American League of Legends, individuals playing Fortnite, or traditional sports teams investing in Esports initiatives, the signs are clear that Esports is going to explode in the coming years as a major sector in economies across the world. The Commonwealth has all the building blocks in educational institutions, business headquarters, corporate leadership and the technological capabilities to be part of this industry’s growth across the globe. However, to do so and be involved with this next generation of technology, commerce, and way of life, we must take a comprehensive look at where we are and where we are going; and also identify what steps we can take now to best position ourselves to lead the growth of this industry. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to explore the economic growth potential of Esports in the Commonwealth. |
