Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 21, 2020 09:46 AM
From: Senator Lisa M. Boscola
To: All Senate members
Subject: Poll Worker Compensation Increase & Training Compensation Increase

I plan to introduce legislation which will increase the compensation for district election officers – poll workers – in Pennsylvania.  Additionally, this bill will also increase the compensation for instruction time for poll workers.  In the current climate, concerns with COVID-19, varying levels of mitigation control in place, and a Presidential election coming up, we need to ensure that poll workers are justifiably compensated at a more reasonable rate.  These individuals sacrifice their time and energy to ensure that elections are held fairly and provide voters with assistance in the process of in-person voting.  This increase in compensation as well as increase in compensation for training, not only recognizes their work and sacrifice but as numerous counties are concerned with a lack of required election officers this November, the increase could also provide further incentive for individuals to either continuing to serve or new people to get engaged in the process.
