MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 29, 2020 11:21 AM
From: Senator Daniel Laughlin
To: All Senate members
Subject: Refunding 75 percent of Liquor License Fees

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would require the state to refund 75 percent of liquor license fees.  In response to the current pandemic, the Governor and Secretary of Health essentially closed many bars and restaurants for several weeks and, upon reopening,  set specific limits and restrictions on liquor sales and seating capacity.

As a result of these limitations, almost all business owners and operators across the Commonwealth lost an overwhelming amount of revenue and some were forced to close their doors.

Eligibility for the fee refund under this legislation would include holders of specific liquor licenses that have been the most severely impacted by the pandemic and mitigation efforts.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to help our struggling restaurant and tavern owners throughout the Commonwealth.
