Subject: Recognizing PPL's 100 years of Providing Electric Service to Pennsylvania

I will be introducing a resolution recognizing PPL for their 100 years of operating as a public utility in Pennsylvania.

PPL is headquartered in Allentown and has grown to become one of the largest companies in the U.S. utility sector. Created in 1920 through the consolidation of eight electric companies, PPL was originally called the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company (PP&L).

PPL and its family of companies provides essential energy services to more than 10 million customers in the United States and the United Kingdom. It provides an outstanding service experience for its customers, consistently ranking among the best utilities in the U.S. and the U.K.

As one of the largest regulated utility companies in the United States, PPL understands the electricity they provide is vital to their customers and communities. To that end, they are investing approximately $14 billion over the next five years in new infrastructure and technology that will create a smarter, more reliable and resilient energy grid for generations to come.

As the energy grid evolves, PPL is addressing new challenges head-on and are finding ways to accommodate new technologies, distributed generation and renewable power sources on the grid. They are also taking steps to reduce the environmental impact and advance a cleaner, more balanced energy mix.

PPL is a positive force in the cities and towns where they do business.  More than 12,000 of their employees generously volunteer their time and energy to help others. In addition, PPL partners with hundreds of nonprofit organizations to enhance educational programs, help develop the workforce and revitalize communities.

PPL has provided electricity and helped power the growth of industries and communities in Pennsylvania for 100 years. When a company reaches this milestone, it is something to celebrated, especially when the company is providing vital services, such as electricity to communities across the Commonwealth.

I ask that you support this resolution and join me in recognizing PPL’s achievement of 100 years of operation and service to Pennsylvania.
