Subject: | Designating May 10-16, 2020 as Hospital Week |
Please join me in saluting our hospitals’ heroic health care workers and support staff as I introduce a resolution designating the week of May 10-16, 2020, as National Hospital Week in Pennsylvania. As we are all acutely aware, our hospitals have risen to the unprecedented challenge of this global pandemic in truly inspirational ways, as doctors, nurses, and support staff work incredibly long shifts and sacrifice their own personal safety to provide hope and healing to the sick and injured, and provide information, comfort and compassion to concerned families. Especially this year, hospital workers have demonstrated how critical they are to our families and communities. They are providing unselfish, life-saving care to COVID-19 patients while still caring for patients facing cancer, strokes, heart attacks, trauma and other emergencies. They also are there for some of life’s most joyful moments, as they help to bring new life into the world. Hospitals are not only the centerpiece of our health care delivery system. They are also a key sector of Pennsylvania’s economy, accounting for nearly 650,000 direct and indirect jobs. Whether it’s acute inpatient care, outpatient services, emergency room treatment, rehabilitation and behavioral health care, hospitals fulfill a vital mission. In addition, specialized hospital care in Pennsylvania is provided by trauma centers, burn centers, and critical access hospitals that serve the state’s most rural population. Please join me in recognizing and celebrating the devoted men and women who work in our hospitals around-the-clock, and who have played such an irreplaceable role in diagnosing, treating and curing diseases and injuries, providing loving care for our loved ones, and dedicating their time and talents to protecting the communities we all serve. Thank you. |
