Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 9, 2020 11:26 AM
From: Senator Andrew E. Dinniman
To: All Senate members
Subject: Robocalls During COVID-19 Crisis

During the COVID 19 crisis, robocall scams continue to take place. These scam calls are often based on inaccurate facts and use questions to get personal information from people. The fact that scam robocalls are continuing during the current COVID-19 crisis in unconscionable.

Citizens who may be physically separated from family and friends feel an increased need to answer the phone. Any scam in this current crisis needs to be stopped.

My legislation would double any fines and punishment currently under Pennsylvania law for such scam operations. The legislation would expire on July 1, 2020 or,  if Pennsylvania is still under state of emergency on that date, until such time as that emergency is lifted.

I hope you will sign on to this legislation.

Introduced as SB1121
