Subject: | Designating the month of March as Disability Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution declaring the month of March 2020 as Disabilities Awareness Month. A disability can affect someone from any age, race, or background, whether it be from birth or from an event that led to it. In America, 25.6% of adults have some form of disability, and in Pennsylvania, 23.9% of adults some form of disability. Even with these statistics, not everyone is aware of the issues that people with disabilities face. Despite there being protections for this group at the federal and state level, they are still faced with discrimination in the work force, with public accommodations, and with other day-to-day activities. This resolution will aim to bring awareness to these issues and help get everyone involved in the conversation about finding solutions. Please join me in sponsoring this important resolution and help make Pennsylvania a better place to live for all Pennsylvanians regardless of their abilities. |
