Subject: | Homeless Children’s Awareness Week |
I will once again be introducing a resolution recognizing the week of October 13 through 19, 2019, as “Homeless Children’s Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act states that children are homeless if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. Furthermore, children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. More than 36,000 students were considered homeless at one point or another during the 2017-18 school year. This statistic does not count children who are too young to attend school which makes the figure even more unsettling. Homeless Children’s Awareness Week will bring attention to the growing problems and issues children experiencing homeless face throughout Pennsylvania and encourage people to get involved. I hope you join me by signing on as a co sponsor. |
