| Subject: | Recognize September 29, 2019, as "Gold Star Family Day" in Pennsylvania |
| In the near future, I will introduce a resolution to commemorate Sunday, September 29, 2019, as “Gold Star Family Day” in Pennsylvania. Honor, courage, and selflessness are qualities that have defined our military servicemen and women and their families since our Nation’s founding. When a solider, sailor, airmen, marine, guardsmen, or coastguardsmen makes the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their nation, their family is forever changed. Parents never stop wondering what their child would have achieved in life. Sons graduate without their mother’s cheers. Daughters don’t hold their father’s arm as they walk down the aisle. Spouses bear the burden of holding the family together as a single parent. That is what a Pennsylvania Gold Star Family looks like. All of us have an opportunity and obligation to acknowledge the loss endured by Gold Star Families in service to our nation, as well as the incredible strength they exhibit. We recognize their sacrifices by pledging to do all we can to honor them and the loved ones they hold close in their hearts. I hope you join me in support of this resolution. |
