Subject: | Catholic Sisters Week |
I will be offering a unanimous consent resolution on Tuesday, Feb. 5, recognizing the week of March 8-14 as "National Catholic Sisters Week" in Pennsylvania. This recognition originated as a component of National Women's History Month in 2016 to acknowledge the impact of women religious in service to communities across the nation. In Pennsylvania, women religious founded and staffed schools, colleges and universities, hospitals and other institutions that have educated and cared for generations of Pennsylvanians in every stage of life and every part of the state for more than 150 years. While their numbers have fallen significantly over the last half century, the sisters continue to serve today as teachers, healthcare professionals, social workers and in numerous other occupations for people of all backgrounds, and particularly the poor and marginalized. I hope you will add your name to this resolution, and will leave it open at the desk for interested members to sign on. |
