Subject: | Eligibility for Wine & Spirits Auction Permits |
I am reintroducing House Bill 2535 of last session, legislation amending the Liquor Code by further providing for wine and spirits auction permits. Under current law, various organizations (i.e., any nonprofit hospital, any hospice, institution of higher education) may apply to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to receive a wine and spirits auction permit. Upon payment of a fee of $30 per day, the permit is good for a period of not more than four consecutive or nonconsecutive days in a calendar year. The permittee would be authorized to sell, by auction, wine and spirits by the bottle or case to any person on any day for which the permit is issued. Wine and spirits auction permits are only issued for use at an event which is used by the permittee as a means of raising funds for its operation. My legislation would amend the list of organizations eligible to receive a wine and spirits auction permit to include any nonprofit organization registered with the PA Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations, and recognized as a community-based voluntary organization committed to fighting cancer which has been in existence for at least five years. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation. |
