Subject: | Heart and Lung Act Expansion |
In the near future I plan to reintroduce Senate Bill 1073, as passed unanimously by the Senate, with one addition. The bill, sponsored last session by Senator Randy Vulakovich, expands the Enforcement Officer Disability Benefits Law (Heart and Lung Act) to include entities not currently protected under the act. The legislation will extend coverage to:
It is important to note, my proposal adds the Department of Corrections’ Commissioned Police Officers, which are sworn law enforcement officers responsible for conducting criminal investigations and arrests for crimes committed in and against Corrections property. The duties of all of these individuals require them to place themselves in harm’s way, and they deserve the same protections already afforded to others under the Heart and Lung Act. I hope you will join me in helping to protect additional members of law enforcement by signing onto this important piece of legislation. Co-sponsors of SB1073: BARTOLOTTA, BLAKE, BREWSTER, COSTA, FONTANA, HUGHES, RAFFERTY, RESCHENTHALER, STEFANO, TARTAGLIONE, VULAKOVICH, and K.WARD. |
