Subject: | Designating the Eastern Hellbender as State Amphibian |
I plan on re-introducing legislation (previously SB 658 of the 2017-18 Session) designating the Eastern Hellbender as the official amphibian of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Eastern Hellbender is the largest North American Salamander with the ability to grow 29 inches in length. Native to certain areas where water quality is pristine, the Eastern Hellbender serves as an indicator species due to its sensitivity to poor water quality and pollution. Because the Eastern Hellbender exemplifies what is good about Pennsylvania's waterways, it is the perfect selection to become the official State Amphibian. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to designate the Eastern Hellbender as the official amphibian of Pennsylvania and help raise awareness of the importance of water quality in our great state. Thank you for your consideration. |
