Subject: Inventory of Local Fire Codes
 
I will soon introduce legislation asking the Department of Labor and Industry to conduct a study that catalogs the specific standard and edition of Fire Code adopted and/or enforced by each municipality in the Commonwealth.

Based on testimony before the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, we have learned that the adoption of state and national fire codes/standards varies by municipality. This renders statewide uniform enforcement of the most recently published codes impossible and impedes the ability of fire equipment distributors to efficiently and effectively install, inspect and service fire suppression equipment. As a first step, this legislation will help member of the General Assembly fully understand the scope of this issue.
