Subject: | Law Enforcement "Blue Alert" System |
In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation establishing a “Blue Alert” System for the protection of our Law Enforcement personnel. Similar to Amber Alert, this legislation would activate the emergency alert system (i.e. PENNDOT signage and media broadcasts) for any incident endangering a law enforcement officer and the suspect is at large. This system is a means to help law enforcement speed up the apprehension of violent criminals who kill or seriously injure local, state or federal law enforcement officers. Currently, 30 states have Blue Alerts to help protect their law enforcement. In December, there was a shooting of a police officer outside the Capitol and last week a U.S. Marshall was shot down in the City of Harrisburg. This legislation would help make these incidents better known to both law enforcement and the public. This legislation is supported by the FOP. If you have any questions, please contact Nate Silcox in Senator Vulakovich’s Office at 717-787-6538. |
