Subject: | Pipeline Safety - Notification Requirements |
In the very near future, I will be introducing legislation that will establish notification requirements for residents who are impacted by pipeline construction. It is imperative that residents are alerted to potential impacts of pipeline-drilling projects well in advance of the commencement of construction and/or drilling. This proposed legislation to require notification arose out of a recommendation offered by the Governor's Pipeline Infrastructure Task Force in 2015-2016 that would improve public participation and the communication of information relating to planning, construction and or/maintenance of existing and new pipelines. My legislation would require companies to provide notification to residents, municipalities and other applicable parties affected by drilling at least 5 days in advance of the initiation of any project. In lieu of DEP regulations addressing this notification requirement, I believe it is necessary to enact legislation to address this issue. Thank you for your consideration. |
