Subject: | Agriculture Exemption of Sales and Use Tax |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation intended to enhance the viability of agricultural operations in this Commonwealth, and assist in preserving the farm family and the entire farm operation. My legislation proposes to exclude building materials used for the construction or repair of animal production buildings from our sales and use tax, thus lowering building costs and helping our producers to be more competitive and improve long-term viability. Many of our neighboring states already employ this exclusion, currently placing our farmers at a competitive disadvantage. It is estimated that the total tax liability would be less than $4.2 million annually. This proposal was introduced as Senate Bill 721 of the 2015-2016 session and was co-sponsored by: Mensch, Yaw, Vulakovich, McIlhinney, Stefano, Baker, Schwank, Costa, White and Brooks. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Stephanie Buchanan at 717-787-4420 or sbuchanan@pasen.gov. |
