Subject: | Notice of Veteran Burial Benefits |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would require funeral directors, pre-need or cemetery companies to provide information regarding the availability of VA burial benefits. The information shall include but not be limited to VA burial benefits and allowances, burial in national cemeteries, presidential memorial certificates, military funeral honors, flags to be draped over caskets and headstones and markers. This bill is identical to Senate Bill 1408 from last session. I am introducing this legislation after talking with a constituent who was unaware of these benefits. It has also been brought to my attention that in some circumstances incorrect or misleading information is given to veterans regarding the availability of burial benefits. My legislation would require that this information be made available when a veteran or anyone acting on their behalf purchases funeral merchandise or burial lot. We owe it to our veterans to ensure that correct and timely information regarding burial benefits is provided. I invite you to join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
