Subject: | Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Trainee Requirements |
I will be re-introducing legislation, SB 456, specifically targeting the growing problem of prescription drug diversion. This legislation defines individuals who assist pharmacists as “pharmacy technicians” and requires pharmacy technicians to register biennial with the State Board of Pharmacy and be required to submit a criminal history background check. This legislation also provides that pharmacy technicians must complete a board-approved training program for pharmacy technicians and also be at least 17 years of age. This legislation also includes the position of "pharmacy technician trainee", and requires that the pharmacy technician trainee be at least 16 years of age. Please note that this legislation grandfathers in current pharmacy technicians exempting them from the new requirements. |
