Subject: | Changes to Election Code- Write In Candidates- Campaign Finance Requirements |
In the very near future, I will be re-introducing former SB 636. This legislation amends the Election Code to prohibit an individual from being a candidate for public office in the Commonwealth unless all campaign finance reports have been filed with the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Elections and all outstanding campaign finance report fines have been paid. Unfortunately, some individuals continue to run for elected office while refusing to file campaign finance reports and/or ignore the fines. These individuals should not be permitted to ignore the law and fines and then file as a candidate for public office. Additionally, the bill will require individuals that become candidates through the write-in process in the primary, to file a campaign finance report within 30 days of the election. This will close a loophole in the reporting requirements. |
Introduced as SB641
