Subject: | Receipt of Gifts by Public Officials |
I plan to re-introduce my legislation regarding the acceptance of gifts by elected officials and other public officers. The acceptance of gifts can be perceived as an unethical exchange of official action for monetary remuneration, even if that is not the case. Even the appearance of impropriety can give citizens a sense of distrust in their government. This legislation will reduce the reporting thresholds for gifts from $250 to $50 and for hospitality, lodging, and entertainment from $650 to $100. It will also encourage voluntary reporting below these new lowered thresholds. Please join us in sponsoring this measure to reform Pennsylvania’s government. Co-sponsors of the legislation last session were: BREWSTER, GORDNER, AUMENT, VOGEL COSTA, VULAKOVICH, STEFANO, DINNIMAN, RAFFERTY, WARD AND FOLMER. |
