Subject: | Reintroduction of Legislation – Grants for Law Enforcement to Investigate Animal Fighting |
I am reintroducing legislation (SB 394) to amend the State Gaming Law in an effort to provide additional support for efforts to rescue and protect domestic and other animals from abuse that may occur from crimes that involve illegal gambling and animal fighting. This bill was included in the “Pet Protection Legislative Package” in prior legislative sessions. Specifically, my legislation would require $250,000 to be transferred annually to the Attorney General for grants to district attorneys to support investigation and enforcement efforts. The funding would be redirected from a $2 million annual transfer that is currently provided to the Gaming Control Board for other local law enforcement grants. The new transfer would also require Attorney General to develop specific guidelines for applications and grant awards. I hope you will join me in supporting this legislation. Should you have any questions, please contact my office at 717-787-7105. Previous co-sponsors include: Blake, Browne, Dinniman, Farnese, Leach, Rafferty, Tartaglione |
