Subject: | State Vehicle Limitation Act |
In the near future I will be reintroducing SB 865, the State Vehicle Limitation Act to cut down on the number of Commonwealth owned vehicles issued to elected and appointed officials and state employees. It is time Legislators, Cabinet Secretaries, and Judicial Officials stop being issued Commonwealth owned cars. This sends the wrong message to our constituents. My legislation will prohibit any elected member of the legislature from being issued a state car and any cabinet secretary who does not need a vehicle for emergency response purposes. It will also require that DGS keep and maintain standards for determining the most cost effective manner for a Commonwealth employee to travel by car (fleet vehicle, rental, mileage reimbursement). It is clear to me that while there is certainly a need for some Commonwealth employees to be issued a car, Legislators and Cabinet Secretaries should not be among them. SB 865 was cosponsored last session by Senators Vulakovich, Alloway, Aument, Eichelbeger, Folmer, Pileggi, Rafferty, Schwank, Stefano, Vogel, Ward, and White.
