Subject: | Legislation – Animal Adoption Tax Credit |
I will soon be introducing legislation that will provide a tax credit for the adoption of a dog or cat from an animal care facility or shelter. According to the Humane Society there are between 6 to 8 million dogs and cats that are cared for in animal shelters. However, nearly fifty percent of dogs and seventy percent of cats in these shelters will be euthanized because they are not adopted. I believe that a possible solution to curtail these disheartening numbers would be to encourage prospective pet owners by granting a tax credit of up to three hundred dollars for fees incurred through the adoption of a dog or cat from a pound, shelter, society, or other protective or rescue association for the prevention of cruelty to animals. A similar animal adoption tax credit came within one vote of passing the PA House. I hope you will join me in supporting this legislation. Let us help the dogs and cats of our Commonwealth find a loving family and home. |
Introduced as SB693
