Subject: | Inventory of water recreational opportunities |
I am reintroducing Senate Bill 261, amending the Conservation and Natural Resources Act (1995 Act 18) to direct the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to inventory Pennsylvania’s rivers, streams and lakes in order to identify boating, canoeing, rafting and other recreational activities. The inventory shall include recreational activities offered by Federal and State agencies, as well as other public and private entities. The inventory must be updated every two years. The inventory shall be available to the public in published form. The legislation establishes an advisory committee of representatives of environmental and recreational organizations to assist the department in identifying water resources for recreational activities and in compiling the inventory. Currently, the department has the authority to inventory the quality and quantity of Pennsylvania’s water resources but there is no specific statutory authority for the department to inventory water resources in order to identify recreational opportunities. |
