Subject: Term Limits for Leadership and Committee Chairs
 

I plan to introduce legislation which would place limits on the number of years a single legislator can hold one committee chairmanship or leadership position. In 1995, with 80 percent of its members in support, Congress imposed similar restrictions to prevent excessive consolidations of power, and to encourage fresh ideas and independence from leadership influence.

My legislation would amend Title 46 (legislature) to create a chapter 13A. The provisions of that chapter would provide that no individual member could hold a specific leadership position or committee chairmanship for more than 8 years.
