Subject: | Transfer Tax Exemption for Volunteer Emergency Response Companies |
I will shortly re-introduce SB 1615 from the previous session to allow volunteer emergency responder organizations to transfer real estate to successor organizations without incurring liability for the state realty transfer tax. As volunteer companies across the state explore ways to more economically and effectively serve their communities, they remain outside the 22 classes of property transfers exempted from the state transfer tax. This tax can be a significant amount and deter full consideration of appropriate restructuring. In a recent case in my district, the tax liability for a fire company and its successor exceeded $15,000. Co-sponsors in the previous session included Senators Argall, Baker, Brewster, Erickson, Farnese, Fontana, Hughes, Rafferty, Solobay, Tartaglione, Vulakovich, Ward, Waugh and Yudichak. |
