Subject: | Creation of Department of Veteran Affairs |
With the important duties of supervising a complement of Pennsylvania National Guard deployed around the globe and maintaining the Commonwealth’s post 9-11 security charged distinctively to the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, I plan on re-introducing legislation that would create a State Department of Veteran Affairs. Pennsylvania maintains one of the highest number of resident veterans in the nation. A State Department of Veteran Affairs would more efficiently administer the numerous programs that are now in place, while allowing the current Department to focus specifically on active duty National Guardsman and the security issues that are pertinent to every resident of this Commonwealth. This was formerly Senate Bill 376 of last session, and previous co-sponsors included: BOSCOLA, BREWSTER, BROWNE, BRUBAKER, GREENLEAF, KITCHEN, LEACH, RAFFERTY, TARTAGLIONE, & WAUGH If you have any additional questions about this legislation please contact my office at 787-7175. |
