Subject: | Memo #5 – Megan’s Law notification for nursing home residents |
I plan to introduce legislation that would amend “Megan’s Law” notification requirements (42 Pa.C.S. §9798) to require law enforcement to provide written notification to nursing homes, assisted living centers and personal care homes when a sexual offender, subject to lifetime registration, is residing in their facility. Within five days of notification from law enforcement, the nursing home, assisted living center or personal care home shall provide written notice to all residents and their families that the sexual offender is residing in their facility. The legislation is based on a 2010 incident where a convicted sex offender residing in an assisted living center sexually assaulted an elderly woman also living in the same facility. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 717-787-6063. |
