Subject: | Legislation Requiring Candidates to File Campaign Reports Electronically |
I plan to introduce legislation that would require candidates for statewide office or the General Assembly to file their campaign reports electronically, making this information available in real time. Thirty states currently require state candidates to report electronically. Currently in Pennsylvania, the Department of State permits and encourages candidates to file electronically, but there is no mandate to do so. This legislation would require monthly reporting for candidates for statewide office or the General Assembly, committees for those offices or political parties that raise or spend more than $50,000 in the previous month. This legislation would also require anyone raising campaign funds through a website to include the website address in campaign reports. At the end of each calendar year, funds collected through the website shall be separately reported. This legislation will be similar to Senate Bill 268 (printer’s number 245) from the 2011-12 legislative session. |
Introduced as SB120
