Subject: | Co-Sponsor Memo – Medicaid Expansion |
This week I will be introducing legislation that would compel Pennsylvania to participate in the expansion of Medicaid so that more than 650,000 more Pennsylvanians would be covered by health-care insurance. This legislation would expand Medicaid to cover persons making up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level and allows the state to end participation in the program if the federal government does not maintain its funding commitments. Of the over 1.2 million individuals in Pennsylvania that do not have health care coverage, this expansion would cover approximately 650,000, create an estimated 41,000 jobs and provide more than $670 million that would be generated from savings and new revenues. I along with my caucus members believe this legislation needs to be passed so Pennsylvania can expand the Medicaid program to cover more of our citizens so we are introducing legislation that compels Pennsylvania to participate. I ask you to join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
