MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 25, 2013 02:30 PM
From: Senator Randy Vulakovich
To: All Senate members
Subject: Establishment of Statewide Database of Protective Services

I plan to introduce legislation to address the recommendations made by the Task Force on Child Protection established by SR 250. My first bill will establish a Statewide Database of Protective Services within the Department of Public Welfare.

The database shall include reports of child abuse and children in need of general protective services. Reports include information relating to the subject of the report, the nature of the occurrence, information on the family, services provided, legal actions initiated, and other details required by the department. Provides for expungement of false or unfounded reports.

A county or law enforcement agency is required to use the Department’s toll-free number to delineate if there were prior complaints. Information may only be used for investigative assessments, or employee or other background checks. Only authorized personnel will have access to the database.

If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Nate Silcox of my staff at 717-787-6538 or nsilcox@pasen.gov.
