|Subject:||Child Abuse updates - Recommendations of the Children's Task Force|
|I plan to introduce a bill to address the recommendations made by the Task Force on Child Protection established by Senate Resolution 250.
My legislation will update the definitions and exclusions of child abuse. Child Abuse will be defined as reckless or intentionally acting against a child causing bodily injury or serious bodily injury. In addition, my bill would list a number of acts that would constitute child abuse, such as kicking, burning, forcefully shaking or slapping a child less than one year old, and physical neglect.
My legislation would also provide several exclusions from child abuse, such as environmental factors, practices constituent with religious beliefs, use of force for disciplinary purposes, participation in events that involve physical contact, and peer-on-peer contact entered into by mutual consent.
Please join me in sponsoring this worthy piece of legislation. If you have any questions, please contact my office at 7-1427.
Introduced as SB20
