Subject: | Adult Mentored Hunting Program |
In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation that seeks to encourage adults in Pennsylvania to experience hunting by participating in an adult mentored hunting program. The bill authorizes the Pennsylvania Game Commission to establish and implement the program through regulation. As with the successful Youth Mentored Hunting Program, the mission will remain the same: to create expanded hunting opportunities while maintaining safety afield. We believe the program will promote a better understanding and interest in hunting and wildlife conservation that will help assure hunting’s future, as well as reinforce the principles of hunting safely through the close supervision provided by dedicated mentors. The number of hunters in our state has declined over the past 25 years and many sportsmen organizations believe that there is a need to provide new opportunities for participation. We believe that everyone who participates in the program, whether they become lifelong hunters or not, will come away with a great appreciation for the outdoors and hunting. |
