|Subject:||Landfills and waste hauling|
|In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation safeguarding our local communities from issues associated with increased out-of-state trash being hauled to our existing landfills.
These three bills together will do the following:
Introduced as SB783
|Description:||1. Require DEP to conduct a community health risk study before approving permits to expand a municipal landfill. DEP would also be required to conduct no less than three public hearings before approving a landfill permit modification (expansion).
Introduced as SB784
|Description:||2. Prohibit issuance of permits for siting new landfills or expanding existing landfills where voters have rejected the siting or expansion by referendum vote.
Introduced as SB785
|Description:||3. Double the fines for trash-hauling vehicles that exceed the gross weight currently allowed under the Solid Waste Management Act.
