Subject: | Designating April 2024 as “Arab American Heritage Month |
Arab Americans have a rich history in Pennsylvania and have made invaluable contributions to the growth and diversity of our communities. They have made these contributions through success in business, the arts, medicine, engineering, and law; advocacy for social justice and civil rights; and service in the Armed Forces throughout United States history. Notable Arab Americans include esteemed writer and artist Khalil Gibran, former Majority Leader of the United States Senate George Mitchell, as well as actors and entertainers such as Tony Shalhoub, Salma Hayek, Rami Malek, Casey Kasem, Gigi Hadid, DJ Khaled, and Danny Thomas. At the federal level, the month of April has been recognized as “Arab American Heritage Month” to acknowledge Arab Americans and their contributions as part of our greater American history. In Pennsylvania, more than 182,000 Arab Americans call our state home, making Pennsylvania’s Arab American community among the fastest growing in the United States. With these contributions and our existing Arab American population in mind, I am introducing a resolution designating the month of April 2024 as “Arab American Heritage Month.” Recognizing and celebrating “Arab American Heritage Month” in Pennsylvania will help to promote understanding, respect, and appreciation for the rich diversity of our state while fostering mutual understanding and friendship among all communities. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to celebrate Arab Americans here in Pennsylvania. Thank you for your consideration. |
