MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 21, 2024 03:24 PM
From: Representative Thomas L. Mehaffie, III
To: All House members
Subject: East Hanover Township Road in Dauphin County Transfer to State Highway

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to establish a portion of a township road in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, as a State Highway. The township road to be taken over as a State highway is Bow Creek Road Route T-612. In exchange for this road, East Hanover Township would accept the turn-back of Canal Road (State Route 2022, formerly Legislative Route 22051) and South Hanover Township would accept the turn-back of Canal Road (State Route 2022; formerly Legislative Route 22051).

Bow Creek Road is the only non-state road that US 81 exits onto, both northbound and southbound, from the Commonwealth’s border of Maryland to its border of New York.

Act 203 of 1931 (Township State Highway Law) allows township roads to become State highways in the Commonwealth through special legislation approved by the General Assembly and then the Governor.

Please join me in supporting this unique function of State Government.
