Subject: | Recognizing Local Government Week and Day |
Since the establishment of the Commonwealth local government has been the cornerstone of our democratic government. Counties and municipalities provide essential services such as social welfare, education, road maintenance, police, fire, and EMS. These services support the nearly 13 million people who live and work here. The work of local government is critical and too often unrecognized. Nearly 166,000 county and municipal employees spend their days keeping us safe, healthy, and moving. Many people do these jobs without compensation, including the more than 1,700 volunteer firefighters. I hope you will join me in recognizing these tireless heroes by co-sponsoring my legislation to recognize April 8 through April 14, 2024, as “Local Government Week” and April 10, 2024, as “Local Government Day” in Pennsylvania. |
