Subject: Unclaimed Property
 
In the near future I plan on introducing legislation which will empower citizens of the commonwealth to resolve simple unclaimed property claims in a more efficient manner.

This legislation would allow the Pennsylvania Treasury Department to verify, process and automatically return single owner property valued up to 5,000. The goal of this program is to enable the proactive and efficient return of unclaimed property for claims in which establishing ownership requires no additional information.

More complex claims will still be handled under the same policies which require filing a claim and going through additional verification procedures.

This policy has already been adopted by several other states for a number of years and would help serve Pennsylvanians by ensuring property be in the hands of the rightful owner.

Treasurer Stacy Garrity supports this initiative.
