House of Representatives
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 25, 2023 10:15 AM
From: Representative Mary Jo Daley
To: All House members
Subject: Online Voter Registration

With bipartisan support, Act 77 of 2019 made various changes to our state’s Election Code.  One of those changes provided for the Pennsylvania Department of State to establish an online voter registration system, which it has done.  In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to codify this voter registration system.

In recent years, many states (including Pennsylvania) have taken steps to make voting easier for citizens.  While this has resulted in more voter participation, some who have been unhappy with the results of certain elections have undertaken efforts to restrict such participation, which is why I believe it is important that the right to register to vote by electronic means be enshrined in law.

By establishing an online voter registration system, mail-in voting, and other ways to make participation in elections more convenient, Act 77 has enabled more people, such as those with busy work schedules or disabilities, to feel the pride of engaging in our democracy.  Please join me in support of this effort to help ensure that every eligible voter has their voice heard in each election.

Introduced as HB1703
