MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 21, 2023 10:45 AM
From: Representative Matthew Gergely and Rep. Nick Pisciottano
To: All House members
Subject: 125th anniversary of Kennywood

Kennywood Amusement Park is a classic family theme park in Allegheny County celebrating one hundred and twenty-five years of operation this year. During that time, millions of Pennsylvanians have enjoyed their numerous rides, events, and, of course, roller coasters.
Kennywood isn’t just any amusement park. Founded on May 30th, 1899 as a trolly park, Kennywood has grown from a picnic ground to a modern-day amusement park. Not losing sight of their history, in 1987 Kennywood was named a National Historic Landmark, one of only two amusement parks in the nation with that designation and one of thirteen trolly parks still in operation. Kennywood takes great pride in this history, working tirelessly to maintain three classic 1920s era coasters that are still enjoyed to this day while also putting in exciting new rides like Pennsylvania’s tallest coaster, Steel Curtain.
We are introducing a resolution to honor the 125th year of Kennywood’s operations and declare May 30th as “Kennywood Day” We hope that everyone from across the state will join us as we prepare for another 125 years of thrills and fun at Kennywood.

Thank you,
Matthew R. Gergely
